Brighton XC Race is a maybe....we'll see.

Well, its almost mid afternoon Friday and I still haven't decided on the Brighton Race. I knew I was doing Bloomer but told myself that it was just for fun and no matter what place I got, I was gonna go home in one piece. It turned out that that's the attitude that helped me show improved performance. This time around I really mean it, I just want to return home in one piece if I am to do this race. Its only four 6.5 mile laps and its not as technical as Bloomer, yet I have ridden this trail only one other time. Its been years, but I remember its was one I wasn't impressed with. We'll see...

Birthday weekend

Well, Saturday I participated in a 4 person Co-Ed team at the "Tree-Farm Relay", first lap was muddy/scarey and the second lap I was sure I had completed minutes faster but it turned out to be only 1 minute 10 seconds faster. I think maybe riding the trail more often I can turn 45 minute laps into 41 minute laps. Sunday did a LSD (Long-slow-dull) ride, with an even slower lap through the Lake Orion high School trail. I am thinking next weekend I will do Bloomer/Lake Orion HS on Saturday with some back roads at a slightly fast pace and by myself. Then Sunday a back road ride of at least 40 miles. YTD Miles: 2828.05

It's days like today...

It's days like today that make ALL-DAY riding fun! Too bad I am racing tomorrow otherwise I could have done 4 laps at Bloomer and some back roads and end with a lap at the Lake Orion High School trail. I am not even going to attempt to enter all the miles I did since the last post, but I will say that I have 2643.55 miles for the year with at least 98% dirt roads/trails. These miles include races. The weather is great out there, maybe a little kayaking?

Catch up!

I have been feeling stronger, and I think Cohutta 100 only helped me learning from the mistakes I made in April. Thanks to great veteran racer, I have been working on better race planning.
The Year to Date total miles is 1553.25 so far. I hope to be strong on Tuesday's back road ride! Speaking of the Tuesday's back road rides, A few weeks back I had 2:15, then the following week 2:07, then last week 2:02, I am definately feeling stronger by riding less frequent and incorporating some running once a week.

The consistancy...

Where I have lacked in bike/fitness reporting and blogging, I have made up in recent weeks of training. I have been running 2 times every week 3.5 to 4.8 miles each day, to my 90 to 100 mile rides on Sundays. It's not really important what days the rides fall on early in the season, just as long as I get recovery time in the week. So far this year I have in almost 950 miles, and this includes a lap at Highland Rec. Area. A good start for the year.

unmotivated, even hoping for rain, but went the extra distance anyway.

Last night after work, David (my son) and I ran 3.625 miles. But I was NOT motivated and was hoping that the thunderstorm would end our run sooner than later.. it never did. Then after the 1/2 lap cool down he did a 100m sprint/race.... I won, barely. Not bad for an old guy.

All the biking stats are more tiring than the ride

All of last year I posted my miles and I believe I completed 4800+ miles last year, but the actual miles for each day? Well I do keep those in a spreadsheet for my benefit, but to remember to post them here in this blog is just too much work. I do have goals this year and I did get in some riding albeit fewer than last year at this time. I do think I am at least as strong as I was this time last year. This past weekend is what indicated that yes indeed I am as strong. I got in a 40+ mile ride at a 17+ mph pace on Saturday and an 81 mile ride in Sunday. Now I am thinking of doing the same this weekend. Saturday is going to be tricky though. My son has a wrestling tournament Saturday, so I will have to get up extra early, get in my 40, then come home shower, eat and head out to Clarkston for his tournament. I have also been running 2x each week this year... I feel an improvement on my fitness could also me attributed to this.
